Engine Swap
Ok I need some help making the correct move here.... My daughter has a 1978 F-100 w/a 302 and launched a rod....The engine is toast. . Here's my question...I am on a very tight budget...Should I get a long block out of a donor truck (same model about $300.00) Or I have found a mid 90's explorer with the H.O.302 for 400.00. I will convert it over to carb. What else would have to be changed. Will the oil pan be ok and what about the cam and dist., will the ones off the HO be ok with a carb??? Any insight ya'll can give???

Well the long block with all your outer parts would be the quickest swap as I see it.
2wd eng oil pan is a front sump and 4wd oil pan is rear sump. To change it you need a different pan and pick up tube.
Can you at least get a "run warranty" on the 300 dollar long block? The HO 302 is out of a ? Motor mounts, external eng pieces compatibility? Converting to carb and figuring out the rest might eat up more time.....
