Yes they are both centered. I checked the placement of the pitman arm keys with both racks all the way to one side. Were the pitman arm points is 45° off from each other.
I bet you need either a 36 spline and got a 32 or you need a 32 spline and got a 36.
Carefully count the splines between the keyed areas and compare the two boxes. A 36 has nine splines between the keys and a 32 has only 8. Been there and done that!
My truck had a 36 but I mistakenly got a 32 as a replacement. The pitman arm seemed to fit but upon very close inspection didn't quite look right. I was in a hurry and didn't notice it at first, but it was hard to miss the pitman arm being about 45 degrees off.
You would not think they would not fit together at all, but it will. Luckily I found it before I had it all bolted on, hopefully you did the same.
I am trying to replace my steering box and when I compared the old SB to the new SB the Pitman arm keyways are off about 45*.
Is there a way to adjust this on the new SB? As the only way the Pitman arm will kind of fit, there is not enough tie rod adjustment to make it work.
It is a 2003 F350 and I order the Cardone part number 100-277569 from summit.
Thanks.
what did you end up doing? I’ve got the same problem with a cardone box. Old was 32 spline, new is 32 spline. The sector shaft is just clocked 45 degrees off from where it needs to be. Hoping you found an answer!
