If you can somehow get it to pull the pitman arm down then sure, go for it. If not, you CAN rent an arm puller from AZ. You don't have to buy one.

I tried using a gear puller on a pitman arm years ago. It did not work so I bought a pitman arm puller from NAPA, they are only $20, but you can rent one if you like. Renting one should be less than $10. When using the puller, you may have to loosen the meshload on the steering box if it has been altered very much. I had tightened the meshload in the last steering box I replaced to compensate for the play and the jaws of the puller would not fit between the pitman arm and the box. When meshload is tightened, the pitman arm is sucked up closer to the steering box.

O'riellys lets you rent special tools for nothing except a deposit. A credit card is better, but you can pay with a check, but they hold the refund for ten days. Harbor frieght has them pretty cheap, but I don't know the quality of them.

You might as well take the steering box off the truck and take it and the new box to a garage and have them swap the pitman arm, it will require a commercial grade impact gun and HD puller to remove.
