I plugged in my salvage yard PCM tonight and sure enough, no more P0443 and no more flashing TCIL, so I am betting the P0713 is gone too. A replacement PCM seems to be the cure for this particular ailment.

Thanks for the help, rla2005 (and subford - the wiring diagrams were helpful).

Thanks for reporting back with the resolution! Very odd problem. I'll keep this one in my notes for sure.

P0443 code

Hey guys, I was reading your posts on the subject. I just purchased a 1996 f-150 with the 5.8l and I have the same symptoms. The CEL is on with a P0443 and alsot the od light flashes. The od light will flash when first started and the go out once the truck is warm. I checked voltage at the VMV and have 12v key on. The resistance for the VMV was .5 ohms. Also, when I unplug the connector at the VMV, the od light will stop flashing and starts as soon as the connector is plugged in. I was told that there is a code stored for the transmission temp sensor in the solenoid pack. I wonder if the transmission is a byproduct of the P0443 or if I do have 2 separate issues or if my PCM is faulty and giving the false codes. I might try and replace the VMV to see if that makes a difference.

.5 ohms is a dead short, replacing the VMV is probably the best solution if your test values are correct.

Hello everybody, thanks to this great forum, I just solved the same problem with my 96 F350 4X4 XLT 7.5L by replacing the PCM with a re-man unit from Autozone. My post can be found here: https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/1...l#post14770439 I hope this helps anybody else out there with this same perplexing problem.
