Our bucket truck is an 05 F550, it has a strange problem with the A/C compressor. 6 months ago I replaced the compressor because it wasn't circulating. It worked great for 1 month, when the bearing in the pulley went out. The compressor wasn't locked up tho. I chalked that up to a defective part. So I put another new compressor, drier, orifice tube and evaporator coil. I vacuumed the system down then charged it. It was working great once again...
for 2 weeks. The driver told me that it quit again, I put my gauges on it and found that there was a negative 20 psi on it. I can't see how this is possible. I charged the system again. It worked for 3 days. I could understand that if there was a leak, the Freon would leak out and the system would be low or even at 0 psi. But a negative, like it had been vacuumed down again. Has any one heard or seen such a thing. How is it even possible. Please help, these Ford A/C parts are not cheap.
If the system sets without use is there pressure on it? If so what is it and what is the ambiant temp? You may have a restriction in the system! If so it is probally in the drier or the oriface. Check for a temp difference on both sides of these parts after about 10 min of continuous opperation. You said you vac and charged the system. The second time you charged it did you check the discharge pressure? System may be overcharged now. Let me know what the above answers are and we can go further if needed.

What did you vacuum it down to and how long did it hold the vacuum?
There is no way a compressor can pull 20 psi vacuum.
What side did you measure on?
If you don't have a sniffer, I would put a can of refrigerant with die in it.

If there is a restriction, why will it work good for a couple of days or weeks and then die?
It could be non condensibles or moisture in the system.
That is why you need to pull a 500 micron or deeper vacuum and see if it holds, if you can't get 500 microns you stillhave non condensibles in the system.
Using a standard manifold will not show you what the vacuum is, that is why you need to use a micron or thremistor vacuum guage.
