Farm Fresh GT40's
Farm Fresh GT40's
I was lucky enough to come across a farm fresh set of early '90's Ford Motorsport SVO GT40 heads that have never seen a block. Hard to find any info on them on the web, tho FRP did email me a installation sheet for them. I did not think to ask Steve if he knew what the MSRP catalog price was back in '93-'94ish. Anyone have an idea what they cost then?
Ford Part #: M-6409-L302.
A pic is also enclosed. I have everything ready to do a install - jus curious about what that orig price was.

From what I understand - could be wrong... the original GT40 heads first appeared on the '92 SAAC converted Mustangs? I know they are re-engineered from original 2-bar E5AE-CA 351w marine heads. They are a mixture of 351w D0OE and 260 specs. 145cc/intake - 53cc/exhaust w/o thermactor hump. Not sure if they were developed by request from Shelby Automotive or not? I know they were then used in both marine and ford auto for the 351HO engines.
The 1993-95 Cobra GT-40 head is little more than a marine head with larger valves and ports. This
fact all by itself makes the GT-40 a good, economical head for 5.0L/5.8L performance. Economical
because it is a common head. Just look for 1.84/1.54" valves, “GT” markings, and F3ZE/F4ZE
casting numbers. Ford part numbers are F3ZZ-A and F4ZZ-A. These heads are also available from
Ford Racing as M-6049-L302. Properly outfitted, these heads use the F3ZZ-6564-A roller rocker
arm with a 1.7:1 ratio.

The GT40 heads were developed in the late 80's (87-88) they are not reconstituted D0OE's nor out growths of marine heads. They were a completely new design. The development work story is covered in "The Official Ford Mustang 5.0" by Al Kirschenbaum published by Ford Racing. They were first used on marine engines after they went into production.
In the late 80s to early 90s you could get the gt 40s any way you wanted them , from ford racing , summit racing sold them to , bare castings to full heads , cast or aluminum ...

That's what I thought also bad... I just meant they had runners like the 2 heads - I was very sure they had to be a ground up design, but you know how the internet is... a little misinformation here - a little there. I have asked over at the SAAC forum if any of them remember any info of them being engineered. Im gonna order that book tonight - thanks for the info. I just get so tired of all the Ebay people listing their Explorer pulled GT40 heads as Cobra heads. Im not sure how long after SVT Cobra production that Ford kept casting those exact spec heads. I know they were milled for higher compression and they also did not have the thermactor humps in the exhaust. My guess is that those Explorer heads are just 351W marine heads that were being cast at the time. They had 66cc-69cc quench and also had the thermactor humps in them.
Thanks for the info!

The MSRP in the 1992 catalog was $347.95.
The MSRP in the 1994 catalog was $359.95.
I'm pretty sure they are priced individually.
I don't have the 1993 catalog, so can't provide the price that year.

No.... that's more Interweb misinfo you got there. The Explorer/Mountaineer got for real GT40 and GT40P heads from '96 thru 2000.
