C6AE Heads

I know this has probaly been covered but i just can't find the info.
I have a set of C6AE 289 Heads that i am planning to put on my 85 HO 302, with a Edelbrock performer 289 Intake and 4bbl. I have read that there should be another letter after the E on the head to determine which C6AE head it is. I have gone over these heads and can't find the other cast letter anywhere? Am I on glue are all C6AE heads the same? I have read here they are a great head for the $, and if combined with the right intake and cam(E303?) will be a nice little daily driver with some snap.
Thanks as always.
P.S.
I have also got a line on some 69' 351W heads would they be better or am i just throwing away another $150

Do these heads have screw-in studs? The plane jane 289 head has rail type rockers. If studs they are the HP289 head and should have 54.5cc combustion chambers with 1.78/1.45 valves. The C9OE 351 heads would have 60cc combustion chambers and 1.84/1.54 valves, and there may be issues with the manifold bolts and water passages.

All of the C6AE are the same. If there is another letter after this number it would indicate that those heads had been manufactured with a revision. They might be an early head with no revision. Actually the C5OE heads are listed as the high performance 289 heads, the C6 heads may not be much of an upgrade from your original 302 HO heads. However, The 1969 351 heads are a much coveted head, and if aftermarket performance heads are too pricey, they are an excellent choice for your engine.(i have been looking for a set myself).I would have them jeted and magnafluxed before I sealed the deal, but that's just me, at any rate that should be done prior to rebuilding or a basic head job anyway. Good luck !

Heads

Thanks Tex,
The guy with the c9oe 351 heads is going to trade me straight across for my c6ae 289 heads. Now before i do this thre should be no issues with manifold(performer 289) and headers (hooker long tube) that i already have correct?
Any body know a good cam for this combination?

C6AE heads are 390 heads. 289 Heads would be C6OE. Only advantage to them over the 80's small block heads is the smaller combustion chamber. The 289 Hi-po heads offer nothing over the std 289 heads as far as performance goes. They both had the same valves, ports, etc. The Hi-po's had screw in studs and cast in spring pockets, that's what sets them apart from the std heads.
