I just wanted to introduce my self. Been checking this place out since about october and finally joined. I got myself a 56 f100. It was my wife's grandfathers that he got sometime in the mid late 60's. Then his son got it (my wife's uncle) and he drove it till around 77. In 1980 he moved and parked it in the back of his shop. He passed away and his wife was wanting to get rid of it so I ended up with it. Don't have the money for fixing it up right now so all I have been doing is cleaning and fixing some some thing that don't cost much and finding out what it needs. I have found it needs alot but I knew that. After all its old and was used as a truck.
Welcome! Second Oregonian to join us today. Looks to be a solid truck. You already passed the first two tests, pictures and location. Don't be afraid to ask questions.
Nice introduction, Its gool that you ended up with the truck, there's some good family history there. It looks pretty solid. If you can get it up and running without too much hassles that would be great. That will give you time to drive it around and enjoy it a bit and get to know it. It will eventually tell you what it wants you do to with it.
Thanks for the welcome. It is a solid truck for the most part. Some rust holes in the normal areas but not bad. I wish I could get it up and running easy but its not going to happen. the motor is a 292 and just a short block. cylinders are all rust and froze up. brake master cylinder is dry with crap in it and the suspension is wore out. so it need work to get it safe and driveable. My plan is traditional 50's style build but with modern safety stuff. I might stay with a y-block or go carburated 351w don't know right now, I will wory about that later. It will be lowered (no IFS) and someday have a powerful engine in it. After all this is my hot rod and hot rods need to be fast. I don't want to lose the old 56 style and feel, if I wanted a modern truck I would just start with one.
Welcome to the site, it sounds like you have a plan. Ill love watching your progress as it all comes together. There are plenty of folk here to help with questions if you have any,so dont be afraid to ask. Good luck, its good to have you.
Welcome to the boards! Cool, another '56 guy close by. Shoot, that truck looks to be in pretty decent shape! Whereabouts in OR are you? There is a fella here in Vancouver, WA that buys-sells used as well as has some new '56 parts here in town. He's pretty reasonable guy.
Might get lucky and find a good used y-block on the cheap. There is a junkyard in Beavercreek, OR that has been gettin in alot of old Fords and whatnot too.
Nice project, and someone stated, good to keep it in the family. What part of Oregon? We just moved back to good old North Dakota last year after 16+ years in Grants Pass.
