ok for you how read my thread (i think i almost killed my truck). you read im havin a problum with it over heating and haveing no pulling power. will i taliked to a mechanic and he thinks its a blown head gasket that is not leaking radiator fluid into the oil. i got to thinking that he mite be right for when the truck is running it leeks radiator fluid out the side of the engine right above the stater not much but a steady drip and it drips after the truck is stopped and turned off. it stops dipping after a while. what do you guys think about that? <!-- / message -->
My idi had a leaky head gasket right at the rear of the passenger side head, did not leak internally just weeped out the back. My understanding is this is a common problem, others can elaborate why. Good luck
im running down where the leek is comeing from. but can a blown head gaskey over heat your truck and mack it loos power. causr thats what my mechanic said it could be. i just dont want to poull my heads and find out theres nothing wrong. should i just do it any way if i find the leeks coming from the head.
If your leaking coolant i suspect its over heating from being low. The low on power part i cant explain unless the gasket is burned through which i would think would be pretty obvious.
I barely knew my head was a problem except for a minor leak of antifreeze I saw coming from behind the starter. Mechanic said I could run it the way it was but did not recommend towing any weight. My understanding is if you do not periodically clean the crackcase ventililation canister, oil will accumluate and burn (at a higher temperature than diesel) in the two rear cylinders causing head gasket failure.
If you haven't checked yet, it could just be the block heater/freeze plug,
or a crack in the block if its the early 6.9s near the block heater - not sure what year your truck is and the engine could've been swapped if your not the orig. owner you might not even know it
Well after doing some more recherches and thinking about it. iv decided to do a tear down to the heads and just cacke the engine out. and maybe i will tear down the front of the engine and take a look at the timing just to be safe. i just dont know what the PO did to this truck or what year the engine is and what shape the engine is inside. i dont even know if the miles he told me the engine has is true. and man the engins so coverd in oil is not funny a good cleaning is in order any way. so is there any gaskets that are bater then an others or whats the best gaskets i should get.
The leak from the head gasket down on the starter is a common issue, it is usually anexternal leak only (coolant from the cooolant passage to the outside NOT into the oil). The leak comes from the o-ring inserts in the gasket.
O Riley's has a set of Fel-Pro gaskets all the ones you need for going down to the heads for a 115+tax. i don't remember if it had the intake gasket or not. now i just need to see what car quest prices are. i wonder why the intake is so spacial.
