I have a 2006" f 350 5.4 supercrew Considering new exhaust system and need feed back on this thought .Instead of replacing factory y pipe with an aftermarket one why not just use magnaflow 2 in 2 out with cross over in muffler itself ? And cut out y pipe all together . Considering the cost of the y pipe and installation of it , woudnt it be cheaper to install a second pipe from where y pipe would have been to the new muffler. What would be the diffrence between the two options in performance ? More interested in the performance than the cost .
2 cats can be pretty pricey. Don't think you'd notice a performance gain with a full dual setup over a single unless you plan on forced induction and lots of rpm require the added flow.
qeustion still is , aftermarket y pipe with single in and 2 out , or y pipe delete with 2 in 2 out ? both situations will be using a magnaflow muffler and the 2 in 2 out has cross over in muffler .
The 99'-04' Super Dutys are what most of the replacements (like from SPD) are made for. The 00'-04' had the worst y-pipe. The y-pipe on the 05'up trucks were quite a bit better however there is usually room for improvement. The 5.4l and 6.8l super dutys were not exactly really popular for aftermarket parts as a lot of the companies ignored them, especially the 5.4l SDs.
indeed , finding after market perfomance bolt ons for the 5.4 frustating. After the exhaust will be the air induction , I've been told that changing this won't make much of a difference at all . Im open to any suggestions though . Maybe a 5 star tune too .
