Swapping Trucks Pros and cons?

Contemplating a swap from '01 2wd F250 trade for '02 F350 4wd. Mileage identical. I know I am taking the maintenance history of the 4x4 as a risk but what changes were made between 01 and 02 that I may want to investigate fully? I noticed right off the bat that the "wait to start" light is not the same as my 01. I think it is on the left and looks like a "curly Q" symbol. Any performance changes between the '01 and '02 7.3 liter?

The same engine on truck weighting several hundreds lb more is not going to have same mpg. The difference on highway driving might be minimal, but city driving will suffer more.
Per my knowledge there was no change on the engine between those years.
I am in similar process replacing E99 F450 with 2000 F250. Seems to me the E99 has more power, but the manual transmission could make this impression. The first gear on automatic is very lousy and I have to switch to low even on my steep driveway.
So far I keep both

He said same mileage, meaning they both have the same amount of miles on them.

He did not say they both got the same MPG.

I did mean the same number of miles (approx 240K). I know the 4x4 will have worse mpg due to the extra weight of the running gear. I know 2000 was the last year for the forged rods and I heard the 2001 had some portion of the intake that was larger than any of the other years. I am leaning towards Ford had shook all the gremlins out of the automatic trans by 2002 but I wouldn't put it past them to go cheap support equipment for a motor they were full aware was going to be replaced.

Reread Kris`s post "The same engine on truck weighting several hundreds lb more is not going to have same mpg"

Per gallon

Biscayne, some early 2001`s had forged rods. Look up vin to tell which.

Kris was responding to the OP.

Biscayne was not asking about MPG.

What is the intended purpose of the truck? I mean will you actually use the 4wd often?

Ok
The op said "Mileage identical." and to which Kris replied about "not going to have same mpg." meaning down the road, over time. 2 wd vs 4 wd.
As far as Biscayne stated "I know 2000 was the last year for the forged rods " which I know to be incorrect as I have an 2001 and the first ones had forged rods and later ones pm rods. You have to check your build date to tell the difference.

I need the 4wd to back the boat in the yard (small hill) and pull the boat out of the water (slick ramps). Other than that I am satisfied.

Frankly guys, I don't even remember if my post above was result of misreading or just loose observation. Why it should matter?
I've been pulling lot of boats with different vehicles and never really needed 4 WD for the job. The only time it was difficult when I was helping my friend to pull boat that was way over 5000 lb with trailer and the vehicle was slightly lifted 2WD F150. The first gear in manual simply had no torque to move the combo on steep ramp and I had to make it mostly on slipping clutch.
What I am getting into is that swapping the truck usually cost money and is the extra protection really worth it?
Or is it more to it?
