So, convinced my dad to watch over truck while Im gone. Its been sitting for two weeks in about 20* weather and had to cycle the plugs about 6 times just to get it to sputter. Then the Cloud of white came out... Anyways let it warm up a bit then took her for a ride. Is my truck just abnormal or when these things are cold are they supposed to scream? I just bumped the throttle and she was screaming. I know its bad to beat on a diesel when its cold, this was after a good 3 miles at about 15mph to warm her up. Any ideas, or reasons they are like this or is my truck just special in more than one way?
The WTS light should be on for about 20 to 30 seconds first thing in the morning if it's in the 20's. If it goes out real quick, then you have something else wrong. The GP's will continue to burn for about a minute or so after the WTS light goes out. I have found that on a cold morning, I can turn the ignition on, wait for the WTS light to go out, then wait about another 20 to 30 seconds before I crank it over. You might want to cross the posts on the GPR for about 45 seconds or so, then hit the starter. You may have a bad GPR.
You cycled the glow plugs SIX times? Did they cycle a full two minutes each time?
Yikes if so. People thinking this WTS is indicative of gp on time are sorely mistaken, it is simply an idiot light to give the gps a little bit of time to burn so some jackwagon doesn't go out and turn the key and try to fire it right up.
Cyclee the plugs six times and wait a good mi.ute after light goes out. The gpr and gp's are all new. Im sure gpr is just bad. And by screamingi i mean hauling ***.
In the mean time, you can take a screwdriver and jump the terminals on the GPR and hold it there for about 30 seconds or so before you try to start your truck. That should be a good test to see if in fact it is the GPR too.

There's no point in cycling the gp's on these trucks. If something is dead, it won't fire any better the 3rd time than the first time.
The light should stay on for 6 or 7 seconds or so after key is turned on, then the gp's should stay on for about 2 minutes from the time the key is turned on.
If the relay is dead, use jumper cables to connect one term to the other, easier than a screwdriver. Hook up the cables, sit in the cab and start after 10 or 20 seconds.
If the gp's are new, I'd say throw a new GPR on there and you should be good.
