So i took my truck to a shop to get some stuff done to it, because i didn't have the time. He fixed the wheel seals, front brake line, and fixed my oil leak. Now he said the ball bearings needed changed on all the tires. he priced the parts just at 600. So i am wondering what they really cost and how hard would they be for me to change them over the weekend? Thanks for all the help. Zach.

The rear end has floating axles and hub bearings, and unless you haul heavy loads alot, I doubt they are bad. Not saying they aren't, just doubt it. You can check them yourself by jacking each wheel off the ground and push in at the top of the tire while pulling out on the bottom. Try to move it up and down to see if ther is any play. You may have to pull the axles on the rear to get an accurate account of any play in the hub bearings.
The front wheel bearing aren't that hard to change, but yo will need a spindle nut socket (assuming your truck is 4x4) and a torque wrench. If you do change the front wheel bearings, make sure you change the spindle bearing too.
Exactly, that dude is trying to rip you off. Do the test described with each wheel jacked up off the ground. If there is any up/down, play in the wheel you may need bearings. If not, you should be okay. On the fronts, give them a spin too. But yeah, I hate it when shops try to take advantage of you.
This is a '94 F250 4x4 dually? Just making sure. B/C if the truck you're talking about is a Super Duty, that explains the higher prices. The SD front bearings cannot be replaced without replacing the whole hub assembly. It is a unit bearing.
Okay my bad we didn't change the axle we just put some spacers on and not sure about the front. I think we did change the axle because the tires were leaning in, but i'm not sure what we replaced it with it's been a while.

Oh he was only talking about the back bearings that were bad, so I have no clue how he can get 600 out of that. That is a ridiculous amount of money for bearings. The reason he said they were bad was water got into them, is that caused from the wheel seals leaking? But I know I'm changing the bearings I know where i could put 600 into my truck else where like a new hpop or a new ts 6 position chip
