I dislike very much those locations ... IMNSHO it's best location is in the drivers side exhaust manifold collector ... I just saw a good image, don't know if I can find the thread it was in, I'll look or go snap a shot of mine.

It is very easy to do, be mind full of chips, some like to grease the drill and tap, I prefer cutting fluid and a vacuum method for reasons I don't want to get into.

Keep the drill square to the material, follow the same hole with the tap. meaning maintain the same angles/squareness as was done with the drill.

Take your time, don't go to deep with the tap, it's tapered and you can open the hole to far.

My choice location ...

If you have an ats setup, you can easily clear the chips out by removing the crossover pipe beforehand, and then run the engine briefly once the hole is tapped before assembly.

Drilling in that spot is a PITA while it's on the truck. The location in the link above has served me good since the date is shows and only took bout 15 minutes....so is that spot above your trying to pick up a reading of hot gas ? (due to the poor design of that manifold) instead of the temp coming directly from the cylinder? Isn't the cylinder temp the most important? Compared to the hot spot in the manifold? I'm sure both locations work fine and probably get similar readings just curious tho

Wow, I don't find the location a PITA at all, in fact it's super easy, I have done several there using a typical 3/8 hand drill.

Did my 94 along side I40 just outside of Ash Fork Az. with a 3/8 Makita battery powered hand drill on my way back from purchasing the truck in Calif. I highly doubt it took 10 minutes to install to a working stage, no I didn't mount the gauge, stuck it on the dash for the rest of the trip. It is now nicely mounted.

However, the important thing is, that it's in the exhaust stream close to the ports, where really doesn't matter.

I personally have never seen the proof, though as I understand the buzz #8 gets the hottest.

Personally, I don't want it seen in the EB.
