Thermo Coupling

I have an ISSPRO thermocouple to install... my question is how far are you supposed to put the tip of the thermo couple in? I think that as you tighten the themocoupling into the adapter, it acts as if its a compression fitting to hold the thermocoupling in place. I plan on the drivers side exhaust manifold to drill and tap it. But how am I supposed to get a drill in there to make the hole?

Thanks guys

Here is a picture too of my thermocoupling.

I did mine on the drivers side also. I have a rigid 18v drill and you just have to the right angle of the fadangle. DRILL SLOWLY! I also had a vaccuum being held up next to the bit to catch the metal pieces. Also when you get close to the end put grease on the bit and that will also keep the metal pieces from going up in the manifold and into the turbo. After you are done drilling really try and draw a tight vaccuum around the hole to get all of the metal shavings. When you tap your manifold use grease on your tap and that keeps the metal shavings from going everywhere too. Clean the tap after a couple of turns/cuts are made. You will be amazed at the amount of metal shavings. After all tapped clean up hole, vaccuum some more. Place bung in hole, tighten snug, not single man tight, you'll strip your newly threaded hole out(=bad). Put you thermocouple in and gauge and your off to the races. Any more questions? Let us know.

Thank you... I got it in there... And then I drove around a little bit, and could not get it to read any higher than 1000º. Although I mean my truck is all stock, so I will play with the ICP mods and see what it reads...

600 or so at cruising at 45 MPH

Idles around 250-300

What you need to do is one of these ICP mods dude.... I am absolutly amazed what it did to my truck... 22K dropped me from a 20 Flat at bandimere to a 17.79. Not only that, but on the last pass, it roasted the 35 inch tires for the first 60 foot...

You need to do the ICP mod... the only thing I dont like about it is how jerky the truck is when you are on and off the throttle, but I think mine is like that, because I wired it up with a relay so It would only see the resistance when I was on the throttle and it would idle like factory.

Oh I was able to peg my old sun pro 20 PSI gauge too... now i got an Isspro gauge in there 30 PSI, so we will see what it really makes.

My truck absolutely hates that mod tried almost every combination I could dream up, from 14.7, 16.2, 16.6, 18.0, and a few others never found one that would work, they always made my truck run like crap.

If you do it at idle, it makes mine run like crap too, that is why I put mine on a relay where it will only work if the throttle is sending out the 12Vs saying its being pressed... Im amazed that yours didnt like it...

I think the AB cali trucks do better with those and chips, because of the larger injectors anyway.... Just think... I might beable to out run you now...

I really want to get rid of the kitty and the muffler now.... and do some injector O rings... I just got to keep saving the pennies for that.

Ive talked to some guys at the electronics store who were diesel guys and they were suggesting a variable resistor and turn it til you get to the optimal efficiency level and then once achieved measure the set point resistance and then buy some percision resistors and reassemble it at that point with that setting. I might try it only for the vairable resistance to see what does work with my truck, other wise it always idles fine with the resistors, but goes to crap around 1800-2k rpms in the 3rd gear or higher its fine off the line in second gear but craps out after you switch gears.
