I ve been calling around to a few repair shops for ball joint estimates. I found one shop that will replace all four with MOOG brand joints for $1100.00 including alignment. Other places wanted 650/750 per side w/o alignment.
Is $1100.00 a reasonable enough quote? I went over the threads about DIY and it does seem like quite an undertaking.
The $650 to $750 sounds pretty much on track for a reputable shop and that would be with MOOG ball joints. An alignment can be $75 - $300 bucks depending on whether or not they need to change the eccentric bushing to get the camber and caster in line.
I did mine myself and it took me about 3-4 hours per side and I have a pretty good tools. I would think a front end shop could do it in 4-5 hours total @ 75-100/hr shop rate + about $70 per ball joint for the MOOGS. That's my take on it, for what it's worth.
I had a dealership do the work a couple of years ago, and I supplied Moog joints. The bill from the dealer was $900-something, plus the cost of the joints. So $1,100 parts and labor sounds in the ball park, to me anyway.
