Anyone know what is involved with swapping my aod non electronic with e4od electric???? I have an 89 with 302 and have the aod non electric and its slipping... my local pull a part has a 90 bronco with I believe to be an e4od electric....is it possible to swap these and what all would I need to ****** as far as wires and such...I have wires going to my aod but I don't think its electric....I am not a trans guy so any help would be greatly appreciated ...
This is quite a lot of trouble for very little gains (if any). I'll take my guess at what you'll need: You'll need the wiring harness and ECU/ECM from the donator, The driveshafts (at least the rear one), and any hardware that's different on those two trans. All this will probably be a lot more expensive than the price for a reman tranny, and then again, that E4OD might be on its last leg, meaning a $2500 rebuild. Your trans doesn't have cables except the TV cable (not electric) and probably some vacuum hoses.
Before assuming your tranny is a goner, check the fluid level (while the truck is at operating temp, iddling in park), check for leaks and take a look at the torque converter. Replace the tranny fluid and the filter with fresh ATF of the proper spec.
How do I tell if the converter is bad???? Trans shifts great when driving just slips a little when first taking off SOMETIMES when cold...and likes to slip when in 4wd....what does a re-man aod go for????
The biggest hurdles Encho has already mentioned. If you have a complete donor truck, you would be better off but again, the E4OD's service record prior to 1994 model year is terrible and rebuilding an E4OD, should it fail, will be significantly more money than the AOD.
ask some of your local 4wd shops who they would go to for a tranny rebuild. stay away from AAMCO and any other chain outfit.
have you changed the fluid/filter yet at all? what size tires are you running. do you let the bronco warm up before driving off or are you hopping in and leaving?
