If the ratios are different, the answer could be to find a new centersection for the front axle. I have yet to find one that was worn out - being that they are a part time setup and most of them sit still a lot. I can set up a ring gear, but I avoid it if it's not absolutely necessary. Some ratios are more common than others on the used market, what ratio is the rear end in your truck?

No offense but helicopter engines are simple, that being said, so are gears. Assuming you take your time, and pay attention I think you'll be fine.

ON EDIT:
You do overhaul, or just maintenance?

Mechanic's Experience

Being a specialized mechanic, such as engine, tires, paint, body, etc., will not provide the experience needed to install a ring & pinion set COLD.

The most important factors are: pinion bearing pre-load, ring gear pre-load, accurate location of the gears with respect to one another, which establishes the TOOTH CONTACT PATTERN, and backlash, or clearance, between the gear teeth.

Incorrectly set-up hypoid gearing can create noise, gear tooth scoring, excess heat, and/or total gear failure.

That's why I asked if he was maintenance or overhaul, Turbine engines have a gear box built into them for the accessories, Turboshaft engines (such as the ones that the helicopters he works on most likely have) actually have a very sturdy gearbox to transmit power from the turbine (generally a "free" power turbine) to the gearbox which is basically a PTO for the anti torque rotor.
