rear end issue

rear end issue
my truck has been shaking and humming at highway speeds, so i took a look under today and noticed that oil has been spraying all over from outside the rear end. im thinking that my rear end is probably shot. how hard is it to rebuild these? can it be rebuilt as a different gear ratio? it is a 1992 f150 5spd i6 2wd.

well i figured i would let a gear shop rebuild it professionaly rather than messing around with another rear end that has probably been just as abused as mine. but thanks for chiming in, i definitaly thought about that option.

being a 2wd you can change it to which ever gear ratio you choose without having to worry about having to match the frontend also, do you know what gear ratio you have now and what you want to go to? you say the outside of your rearend, can you go more into detail where the 'outside' is, at the end of the axle tubes by the brakes, or out the rear cover? either way the gears may still be fine, just need to replace a seal and refill with fresh fluid
