I just need some confirmation on a part #. From the reading, it seems that D4TZ17696A is the type 9 mirror for my 73 F250. It also seems like this is the part # that is most readily available. Is this true, or am I mistaken?
If this is true, what is the best source for this mirror at the present time?
These are the mirrors that that part # comes up with , these are also the mirros im looking for my 77 f250 , mine has some on there right now but there all black i want them chrome , so far the best ive found is on LMC.com..
I found and ordered some mirrors from a dealer in TX, but when they arrived, they were not what I expected. I was supposed to get part # D6TZ-17696-A, but I think I actually got an 80's mirror. Can anyone confirm my suspicion?

What year did you order it for? The description in the parts catalog for the D6TZ number reads: Type 9, RH and LH-5 1/4" x 8 1/4"- stainless, includes CURVED upper and lower mounting brackets with (2) mounting holes on 2" bolt centers-17713 arm has-6 11/16" span.
That kinda sounds like what you have.
The description for the D4TZ reads: Type 9 RH and LH-5 1/4" x 8 1/4"- includes FLAT upper and lower mounting brackets. Upper bracket has (2) mounting holes on 2 3/4" bolt centers-lower bracket has two mounting holes on 2" bolt centers. 17713 arm has 7 19/32" span.
I specifically ordered it for my 73 F250. However, when I mock it up against the door, the arm is clearly going upwards and not straight out. The look I was expecting to get is pictured here. https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/9...ml#post9158966
I don't have a picture of it mocked up yet, but what I have doesn't look anywhere close to what is in the link above.
DAMN!! That's cheap for NOS! I think that's the one the OP needs. The D6TZ number is listed for '77-up and the D4 number is what the catalog shows for a '73 F250.
The D4TZ is what I actually wanted, but couldn't find anywhere. I finally gave up and went with the D6TZ. Seeing these on eBay, I will be buying a pair today. I would still like to confirm what I actually have in my hand today. I don't think that these would work for my application at all...
Another curious item about the mirrors that I received is that the mirror head on the D6TZ-17696-A is supposed to be 5 1/4" x 8 1/4", but the one I received is 6"x9", mounting holes are 2" between centers, and the bracket span is about 6 3/8" between ccenters. This all is making me even more convinced that the one I received is not what I expected.

Would still love to have someone back me up on this.
Tell me about it. I have a set of those on my 77 F-150 and they are excellent. Each comes with those nut sert things that go into the door, all bolts and gaskets. Also comes with the mounting instructions and diagrams so you get them in the correct spot on the door.
I am thinking about picking up 2 more just to keep.
