Well that sure is an interesting idea there. Because if I recall correctly it has happened in areas that had more moisture content than my normal area, or my area when fog occured. Is this just a replace item?
Just wondering how would the IDM get water in it? Would it be that the cover was not sealed good enough. I've heard of this water in the IDM but never heard anything about how it gets there. Also would it be possible to dry it out good, or do you just replace it.

In my searching I could never find a definite reason as to how it get in, except for on the econolines where it runs down the various trim pieces and the weatherstrip and into the idm. My guesses are water coming up from fording/splashing through puddles, cleaning the engine bay, or heavy rain and it drips in there.
I may try a bag of rice just to see how it works. Remanned IDMS are about $150 bucks or so.
Is it feasible that my fuel is gelling around 30 degrees or have water in my fuel? I know that I have no water in fuel light.
So far on my list I have:
CPS-Replaced in 2010 with FOMOCO part
IDM-Passes buzz test so I know its working...
Fuel screen in tank is plugged, although I am not sure how it runs bad then perfect later on...
TPS, although it appeared to check out.
I'm gonna pull my IDM tomorrow or so and then shake it around, that will remove that from the equation. I wish I had paid more attention to what take it does this on, I suspect it does it on both though.
The best option here be to just take the shotgun approach?
Also I am curious as to if it would be feasible to drill a hole in the bottom of my tank and then install something like a fumoto valve whereby I can run something like seafoam shake my tank around and get stuff out through the bottom instead of pulling tanks?
IDM Pulled today no water contamination or way for water to enter.
Took a couple of driving session logs and will evaluate those.
In my front tank there is a 1/4 inch hose from the rollover valve. There is a plug in it and here a few months ago I pulled that to see if it sped up fillups. I left the back alone. I can't recall if this issue happened on the front and rear tanks or what. Could this have allowed air intrusion?
Well this same issue has happened in the past. I'd be driving along and my truck would cut out and although not die, it would have drastically reduced power. I could hear the fuel coming and going in rpm change. So essentially the same pedal pressure to make it to 60 at one point in time would make the truck so 70 or faster when I heard more fuel going to it. It never really felt like it was gonna die all the way, didn't go below 50 or so and I kept the fuel to it. It did it on a long road trip before for about 30 seconds and then was fine all the way home. It did it another time but really severe and I thought it was going to die and then it was perfectly fine. It happened again tonight and I could really feel it cutting out or losing power and then it would be no problem. I was even coming back into my town and got stopped and got a bad talking to by the deputy, but no ticket. Its weird I never ever speed, but the one time I am worried about my truck breaking down and hurrying home and I get talked to.
Oil is nearly due for its 5k change, here in about 300 miles. The first instance of this happening was at about 2k or so miles on the oil. It also had a new fuel filter and I did clean the FPR. I diesel up at one place only, and on many occasions it will run perfectly fine. It has ran good more times then it has ran bad I will say. I run Diesel Kleen, and also tcw3.
I did a cylinder contribution test with my AE here about a week ago and found no issues. I've got no leak in the valley. I do have a CEL but that is from a glow plug issue being burnt into memory.
So where should I start? My truck is reliable enough to make me think its ok for a long trip, but just enough mystery that I really do not want to risk breaking down.
Do a buzz test , you most likely have an IDM code .. (UVCH )
