I won't disagree with you guys that the OEM housings throw out the HID light adequately, I just personally like the look of projectors. I must also add that with projectors, I feel that the lights will not be done half-assed.
If no HIDs, I will go for upgraded wiring and some non-blue tinted halogen bulbs such as the Philip Xtreme Visions.
Question: Why don't you guys go with the less ricer looking 4300K color temperature? That is what most OEM HID offerings use.
Actually, the 6k's are what were on my X when I bought it a couple of weeks ago. My plan is to get the H/L 4300's because of the light output vs color. You would not believe the looks that my X gets with the setup now though. Granted it is the best looking X in the area for sure.

That is good to hear...6Ks are pure ricer
The 5Ks that High Intentions has look good too, but 4300's still win when it comes to light output.

Good call dude! I dropped the coin on Lightwerkz's retrofit for my wrx a while ago and it was worth every penny. I'll search the nasioc forum for my thread on it and i'll link it in here. The setup i ran before the hid retro was new oem housings, philips xtreme visions and a relayed harness. The harness is what really tied it all together because it allowed the bulbs to draw power directly from the battery with as little loss as possible.
As far as HID color temps goes, from what i understand, 4100-4300 is oem color temp due to the truest (is that a real word?) white and best visibility.
Mine are 5K's as well and in real life look very white, not sure where the blueish tint comes from in the pics, could be the garage door. 4300's look a bit too yellow to me.
I had 4300's in my 2000 factory style headlight and is one of my fav's. When I went tp the 05 headlight had to get the newer style bulb. The set up I went with only went down to 5000. The 4300 has a very slight hint of yellow to it. Some outfits say 4300 is pure white others say 6000 in pure white?? I have seen some ricers around here with blue almost purple.. Don't know how they are able to see with those?

Most of E-bay seller do not have 4300K light for 9007 as of yet. A few years ago, they didn't even have anything less than 6000K at a reasonable price. I saw lately they have improve on their light bulbs selection and the size of the ballast has been reduce in size.
bigwhitetruck, I will post the link to the NASIOC thread you posted in the other thread about HIDs here on FTE. In that thread, it says that the cars with HIDs from the factory have color temperature between 4100 and 4300. That thread is old however so is that color temp still the standard that the OEMs use? From a quick google search, the 4300s will have higher lumens than the 5000s but will you actually notice it?...depends really. From the quick reading on other threads, posters say that in projectors, the color difference cannot really be seen. Don't know if that holds true with non-projector setups. Here are the threads I read and the google search:
