I know this is a long shot, but since FTE is the best forum on the planet, I am going to ask the question here!
My wife has a 2006 Pathfinder. About a month ago we noticed a grinding noise when turning the wheel coming from the column area. Now the steering wheel is beginning to wobble side to side and up and down... After some research it is clear that the steering column needs to be replaced....
My question is, does anybody here own this year and has had this same issue? Also has anybody ever replaced a steering column with an air bag? On the surface it seems like a pretty simple job, just curious what I am getting in to?
Below is link with many others having this same issue....
I'd be more inclined to replace the upper bearing. As long as the steering wheel controls still work and the SRS light isn't on, the clock spring is intact. It's a pain to get the whole thing apart, but in the end it's most likely a $10 or less bearing.
Thank you for the response. I am hoping to break in to it this weekend and see what we have. The more I read the upper steering column and coupler has to be replaced, to the tune of $700.00...
