Would a vacuum modulator from a C6 fit a C4 transmission??
I am looking at the possiblity of adapting small diesel engine to a vehicle with a C4 trans. The standard modulator arrangement doesn't work because diesels don't make vacuum. There are mechanical modulators for the C6, they use a cable connected to the throttle lever to move the modulator valve in/out to change pressure and shift points. PATC has one, and supposedly diesel powered airport Ground Service Equipment made by Tug or Yale with the C6 trans also have mechanical modulators.
Same questions different way. Were there diesel powered industrial tractors, lift trucks, or mowers, etc. that use the C4 transmission?? Manufacturer and part number??
Full manual valve body likely would also work around the no vacuum problem, but the wife (aka the BOSS) will also be driving the conversion, and I am sure she would not want to shift gears.
Another possibility is the vacuum system that was used with C6 diesels from the '80s through 1996. There was a vacuum pump and a vacuum regulator valve (VRV) that attached to the injector pump lever. That regulated the vacuum to the modulator for shifting.
