For anybody running or having seen x-codes in the past, how many total leaves are there? I picked up some x-codes today from a reputable salvage yard, but I'm not sure they look right. It has two main leaves, but also has one long helper leaf on the bottom that goes essentially the length of the two main leaves. Looks like it will ride like a dump truck. I am thinking of removing the helper leaf, since I have a hunch it may have been an add-on anyhow. Let me know your thoughts. Thanks.
Yep, stock X code is 2 leaves. If you have a helper leaf it will be a little on the 'firm' side, mine is, but thats what I wanted, don't ever want to bottom out again!
I took the top overload leaf from my rear B codes off and added it to the bottom of my X codes. You can't leave the B code top leaf on or it can hit the rear AC lines.
Heres mine, stock X code in front modded one behind, and of course my disaster of a garage in the background.

What!? I have never heard of this. In all of the write ups I have ever seen regarding the modified B code springs, you are the first to mention this. The only mod I've ever seen mentioned is to take the two smallest helper leaves off the stock excursion spring pack and to add it to the bottom of the b codes, between the main spring pack and the overload leaf.

Same here, but don't forget, B codes are rear springs, X codes are front springs.
Tom, I don't remember you posting that info in your thread. But then again, with my Etch-A-Sketch memory, that wouldn't be surprising!
That top overload spring looks like the arch is just a hair off.

Doc, I think you are asking about removing the top overload leaf from the rear B codes, if so here's the deal.
See that single top overload leaf with the thin block between it and the rest of the pack? On the Superduties it comes to rest on a set of frame mounted pads when under high loads, the EX's don't have those pads so they would not serve any purpose on an EX. However just above the right rear springs the lines for the rear A/C run along the underside of the cab floor. Under a heavy load spring commpression that top leaf could come in contact with those A/C lines causing the system and your wallet to depressure. Thats why you will want to remove the top overload leaves from the B codes, if your's have them, some folks here have reported getting B's without the top leaves, mine had em. Take that little spacer block off with the leaf also.

Stewart, I never actually made a thread about my X/B swap, actually I just started to migrate some photos onto photobucket this week. Think I should start a thread on it? I did do it a little differently than most.....
And yes, the spring arch is a little off but with the truck's weight on the springs everything arches together. Drilling the holes in that overload leaf for the nylon slider pads was not fun, that spring steel is hard stuff!
What U bolt did everybody use for the modified B codes? Getting new stock U bolts for the Ex won't be long enough.
I went to a local big truck spring shop, gave them the measurements that I had figured I'd need and they bent up sets of new ones. About 30 minutes and $65 or so.
