I am getting ready to buy new front springs. I have decided to stay with the ones available from Ford. I have a "UB" spring code inside the door. I assume this means U code in front and B code in the rear? Here is a copy of leaf spring codes for SuperDuty 4x4 pickups, '99 thru around 2004:
S = 2C34-5310-AAB, 4,000 lb.
T = 2C34-5310-ABB, 4,400 lb.
U = 2C34-5310-ACB, 4,800 lb.
V = 2C34-5310-ADB, 5,200 lb.
W = 2C34-5310-AEA, 5,600 lb.
X = 2C34-5310-AFA, 6,000 lb.
I know folks seem to be happy with the X codes, but the W codes supposedly have the same arch (lift) with just a little less rate which would seem perfect to me. What I'm really desiring is a little more wheel travel and the W's should have as much as the X's. The W's are also a little cheaper. Am I missing something as to why no one (that I can find anyway) has tried the W codes?

Swapping OEM 4x4 leaf springs Ford put on the F-Series trucks onto 4x4 Excursions has been a long running upgrade modification for Excursion owners.
Swapping in V's up front and B's out back are the most common spring choices, however tons of guys go with the X codes too.
I think the main reason the W's never became as popular as the X codes is because there is only a slight difference between the two, and like most of us testosterone filled dudes, we seem programmed to always want bigger/best.
In your case it's kind of a no-brainer though, since the W's are cheaper than the X codes.

well, at $15.00 a spring, I really just want to buy the right ones...just kinda surprised I find zero evidence of anyone trying the w codes anywhere. As you say it seems like a "no brainer" to me, even though we are speaking in incremental terms. I am shocked that Tugly didn't wrestle with this one when he replaced with Ford springs. Thanks Stewart.
400lbs makes a difference. I went with ATS spring for my rears last fall. The stock spring in the rear is a 2800lb spring. They sell an intermediate spring that is rated at 3400lbs, and then have a 4400lbs set. I went from stock 2800's to the 3400's and it stiffened up the ride a noticeable bit. I am sure 600lbs may be a bit different in the front with that honking huge motor on top of them, but the difference between the W's and X's is probably noticeable.
