"The boulder will be taken by specially designed 200-wheel truck to the Los Angeles County Museum of Art to make up the "Levitated Mass" sculpture. The 680,000-pound rock is 16 feet wide and 21 feet tall."
Well it has been red flagged with 40 laps left to go while the jet drier truck burns like mad..... Juan Pablo Montoya hit the jet truck at about 100 mph burst the fuel tank and ignited the truck, and his own car on fire... no one was hurt... but hello what they hell? This was just stupidity!
So much for the old adage "the shortest route between two objects is a straight line eh? Wonder how much fuel those two trucks will use in their 7 mph trip?
What the hell are cars doing on the track....let me rephrase that...what the hell is the drier doing on the track while cars are still out?
Amen Brutha Steve! the announcers are scratching their heads too... there are gallons of Jet -A all down the track, and the heat has melted the new pavement. Now they have brought the truck and jet trailer off the track carving a large groove across the track from high on the banking down to the infield, so next they need to clean the pavement, and then dry it out, and then patch the pavement.... they are going to use Bondo to do a temporary fix.... Geez just call it a race!!
The jet engines they use are the same as a jet ranger,,, they burn 35-40 gallons per hour at the normal operating speed of 55,000 rpm.... The track official say they carry 100 gallons on board the truck
Were they under yellow while the track was being dried? I saw the replay and the accident was certainly a one-in-a-million kinda deal, but with safety issues you have to consider the unexpected. Seems dumb to me that they would be counting laps with equipment working on the track.

Yes they were under the yellow ... Montoya had been in the pits complaining of a vibration in either the rear end or the trans on acceleration. they gave teh car a quick visual inspection and sent him back out to check it again... as he was coming up to speed to catch the pack, when something cut loose, and sent him sideways... oopsie!
So I guess NASCAR would rather take that risk in order to get laps in than to drop a Red until the track is clear. I wonder if that will change now. Probably not, because nobody died.

Oh I have to correct the info.. they just corrected themselves..... the fuel tank was not 100 but 200 gallons, and the truck itself which was gasoline has a 55 gallon fuel capacity it is actually comical the drivers are all standing on the track looking at the cleanup, and chatting eating snacks, and drinking water, sodas, and energy drinks... heck give em a brew! how much worse could it get???
