i have a 79' bronco that when i bought it the whole thing was wired with switches/push button. took all the wiring out and put in a factory ignition switch with key. the p.o. hacked the coil harness up to get to the coil wire (dumb) so i put a uncut coil harness on it and hooked up the s starter signal wire right. after the truck starts the starter keeps cranking until u take the s wire off the terminal. sometimes that doesnt work and i have to pull the positive battery cable (starter solenoid getting hot from troubleshooting imo) i have tried different starter, solenoid, ignition switch ect. Today i noticed once the truck is running and i pull the s wire it sill gets 8-10.5 volts all the time i know it would be simply to wire in a toggle to the s wire and be done with it but i would like it key only. where and what do i need to look for in that s wire to see why its still getting juice? i know it runs to the neutral safety switch and then to the ignition correct? where is this located?
Did you check and make sure the new ignition switch is actually working properly? I have seen some older ones keep power going to the "start" position even when the key is in the "on" position.
How would I test that? I have a 2nd a spare igntion switch without key/tumbler but I can't figure out how to get an old key/tumbler out of the spare complete igntion switch.
I have tried 3 spare solenoids. Its in that s wire wiring. I need a wiring diagram or pointed in where to look. Once u pull the s wire it stops engaging. A toggle switch on the s wire would fix it but that's mylast option imo
You and your solenoids. The OP clearly eliminated the solenoid by doing the following:

To the OP: Can you describe exactly what is wired where? You mentioned that you replaced the coil harness and made sure to connect the 'S' post correctly, however the coil should not connect to the 'S' post at all. However, the coil does connect to the 'I' post of the solenoid. This is the start bypass circuit to circumvent the ballast resistor when the motor is cranking over. It wouldn't surprise me if your problem is centered in this area.
The brown wire is on the I terminal the s wire is the red with blue strip. Its wired right there. The coil harness was all hacked up so I got a new oem coil harnes that was plug and play. The p.o. had everthing wired to switches ( s wire, I wire, and push button start) and ran no key. There has to be smething under the dash that's wired wrong. The sensor at the brake pedal is not factory wiring but everything else is. I'm a electrical newb lol but I do know how to solder (barely) and use a multimeter lol
