Hey fellas
I have a 75 ford, with a 360 fe and I have a problem. When the truck starts the starter stays on after the key is released. here is what I have replaced, solenoid, starter, harness was rang out, I also have 13 volts across the ingition wire connection stud and the negative on the battry with the key off, and the wires on the solenoid are to the wiring diagrams. I am thinking I may have a bad ignition key switch??? or key tumbler?? any hints this time.
Well theres not much left after all. If the trip wire is always showing hot, then the switch or harness are shot. It should be fairly simple to pull the switch and check it continuity, but I'd bet on it being the switch.
i would try to jump a wire from the battery to the solonoid Ignition connection and see if the starter stops when you remove the wire.Be sure to put the ignition switch in the on position so it will stay running.
there should be two posts on the solenoid that two small wires go to. if you have those wires hooked up backwards the starter will not turn off. try flipping those two wires first and see what happens.
The starter would crank with the key in run and NOT crank with the key in start.
His problem is either switch or relay related.
Sometimes when people try and start their engine, the battery is low.
If there isn't enough power in the battery to trip the relay OFF, The contacts of the relay FUSE together.
So when the person tries a new battery, the starter will keep cranking because the contacts are still fused together
