I did a search and didn't really find an answer.
I was thinking about a 70 series Flowmaster, but it seems like it isn't that much difference from the stock sound. Perhaps I should go with the 50 series SUV Flowmaster. Any thoughts on the interior noise with that muffler? The exterior sounds great.
Bears, I run a full size magnaflow (70 series) before my headers and ypipe change it was just a touch louder than stock. They sound nice under load. When I added my headers it did get a bit louder.
If your looking for more noise, I would try something else... Maybe a 44 series.
Bud, if you don't get rid of the body mount noises you may want to try no muffler after cat!
If your thinking of those possible mods, and don't want too much noise the full body (70 series) may be your ticket.
It gives you a nice subtle rumble at startup and at idle. When you get on it, you will hear your not stock. Also try to use 3in pipe or pipes after mufler will also help with the sound (if your as **** as me).
Everyone will have their own opinion, I first installed a 40 series didn't like the sound, then a hushpower, didn't like that, even tried straight pipe after cat, maybe if I was still 20.
Anyway, your the one that needs to like the sound so....
Here's an idea, find a local custom exhaust place, have them try a few dif models while up on the lift. I'm sure they would be happy to do that for you.
You might want to a search over in the Modular V10 forum. While the sounds will reverberate a little different in X at least it will give you some other ideas.
I like my 44 and I feel like it is pretty quiet, at least compared to my old 460 with a DynoMax and no cat. I think a 70 would be way too quiet.
Check out the 44 sound here http://computercowboy.com/Excursion
In that video I have a cold air intake and a 44 with 3" in and out on center. The muffler is right after the cat and the rest is stock.
Thanks for all the input guys. While I'd like it a little loud, I still have to take into consideration that I bought this beast to be the family truckster. So I can't have it too loud.
The 44 is pretty tame at idle. When you put it to the floor you know know it's there. It is not very loud inside the cab though. My old 460 sounded like a gasoline inferno.
What I don't miss about the 460 is a heavy resonance/drone at idle. The V10/44 has none of that.
