well i was comin down the road a few nights back and the exhaust fell off, i decided to try a single exhaust, im going with a 2 inch from the manifolds down to a Y pipe and then 3 inch all the way back with a pretty much straight through muffler, how do u all think it will make the 351M sound??
On my 68 bronco with a 90 mustang injected 5.0 I have 2 1/2" pipes off the headers to a flowmaster y pipe (summit) that goes to 3" 50 series flowmaster . It sounds great it is not too loud at idol just a little louder than stock with a good sound. and when you get on it it gets a little louder but not too bad and sounds tough. It also gave me better horsepower and torque. It's the best setup I ever had. I plan to do the same on my 75 crewcab with the 460. It gives you lots of room undreneath the truck without two mufflers and pipes all the way out the back.
I just did that to my '96 F250. Due to the local e-test ***** around here the cat had to stay. I replaced everything from the cat back with 3" pipe and a FM 3"/3" muffler exiting out the stock location. It's not really too much louder than the stock set up at idle, it does really sound good at about 3000 RPM's. It has a much deeper tone to it all around.
Try to find a muffler shop that will let you TEST the Flowmaster that you want....at 80-100 dollars a pop...that would be an expensive dislike.
Why not just run duals on it. It's a V8, it'll like it. And it will give you a good sound. A decent muffler shop should be able to give you dual straight pipes from the Cat's for 125-150 bucks. Then mufflers on top of that would factor in basically the cost of the muffler.
