Good to know.
Growing up in Poland, I was cutting asbestos with hacksaws, was playing with Mercury in my bare hands an running highly polluting cars in garages with no good ventilation.
Add that in that era and place we did not have ABS, no traction control, no ESP, no snow chains for winter and even no winter tires easily available.
I did climb high ladders with no safety harness, was chiseling stones with no helmet and no safety glasses.
We weld all the time at work and I have had the elephant sitting on my chest feeling more than once. Everyone knows that brake clean will ignite but very few know it will gas you to death.
I was using trichlorethane one day to find a vacuum leak (brake cleaner at the time) on a friend's Mustang and he inhaled as a cloud of smoke from the exhaust passed him, and BAM he couldn't breathe. Cleared up in a second or two, but definitely a lesson learned.
Did some searching. Chlorinated is non-flammable, but bad for the environment. Non-chlorinated is better for the environment, but extremely flammable. I also found some posts that said when using it for weld prep, use the non-chlorinated to avoid the poison gas scenario.
Chlorinated solvents can no longer be produced in the US, but existing stockpiles can be used. If you want/like chlorinated brake cleaner, stock up on it now. Walmart already stopped selling it and only sells the flammable type.
Chlorinated solvents are a great prep solvent for painting and touch-up work - an outstanding degreaser.
