I like the 66 since I have been messing with them since the early 80's and due to the commonality of the early years and the ease of finding parts for them.
Red 66 LWB Big Block with a granny 4-speed. When i went back to college i put a 240 6 cylinder in to get better gas mileage. Put power disc brakes on it off a 76? that my buddy had wrecked. Pulled the whole I beam assy out and swapped it.
Then i found a tan / white custom cab ( Big block with auto) sitting along side a farm house out in the country with a sweet body on it. Brought it home and transferred my 6 cyl, 4 speed, disc brakes to that body. I found a smoking deal on a 5 liter of a wrecked 85 GT mustang. Pulled the 6-cyl out and put the 5.0 ( put a carb on it, there was no adapter wire harness then for the fuel injection) with a C6 behind it, a 1- piece drive shaft, posi and added power steering to it. Sold that one in 99 and went to something with AC and more creature comforts.
I had always wanted a 4X4 and now my latest project is a 66 SWB 4X4.
