65 Emblems

Here is a link to what they look like
http://x7.putfile.com/10/27713491749.jpg

Where can I find them? I can find the 66 emblems from LMC, but they have NO 65? What is the deal. The emblems with the FORD 100 on the top are hard to find. The Emblem with the FORD and embosed 100 in the bottom are easy.

Maybe I have the wrong emblem? Reguardless, anyone know where I can find them in good condition?

To the best of my knowledge; there's no after market company currently making true 65 F100 emblems; and yes a 65 has FORD 100 on top and a 66 has FORD on top and 100 insert on bottom. The best bet to find 65 emblems is e-bay every now & then they come up for bid; I bought a pair real cheap but they will be rechrome prior to installing on my truck. The 66 version cover several years so its all about supply & demand with the reproduction companies.
At last Supernationals a vendor had one that was in excellent condition for $75 and an old pitted one for $30; couldn't see spending that much for an emblem for that price; but if your attempting to restore to 100% its worth the cost.

Well, I am not a hardcore restore guy - but if you want it to be a 65 you MUST HAVE THE EMBLEM and the OPEN CHECKED GRILL. IMHO anyway. The rest can be mixed and matched to any degree. But the 65 Emblem is indeed the nicest looking I think. So you are saying that they are rare? I would trade the 5 66 emblems I have for 2 65s!

So what about the grill....is it hard to find as well? I have not checked LMC or Obsolete yet, but if they are indeed rare also I will keep my eye out more for them.

Its not that they are consider rare but you have to look at it as they where only produce for one year model; as for 66 emblems they where use to cover a variety of style's like camper special & four wheel drive models as well. An seem more popular with after market buyer's
Also you'll see alot of 66 model grills; which seem to be the more popular style inserted into 65's as well; The two major differences between these models is the grill & hood side emblems.
As of right now I know of only three companies that produce the 66 grill for price ranging from $499 to $699.No one repro's the 65 and down grille's; again its about supply & demand.
I replaced my 66 grill insert which was installed into my 65 F100 (PO) with a 65 grill I got out of my local salvage yard; and the cool thing about it was a standard cab grill (meaning) solid metal not the thin aluminum anodized. Makes it alot easier to chrome.

If possible keep checking e-bay and your local salvage yards and even the classifieds here on this forum; you can even post in the wanted section.

Ah yes, my pet peeve about a lot of '65 trucks I see.
Only the '66 side emblems and grilles are reproduced. Couple of reasons, but the short version is it involves what original tooling still exists and supply/demand.

Grilles can be found used, if you're patient. The side emblems are the same story, but all you need is ones that aren't riddled with pits. Then send them out for a rechrome. It will cost you slightly more than buying new 'wrong' '66 emblems. I had mine redone and am very pleased with the results.

Thanks guys!
I wrecked my original aluminum grill...found a steel one and had it chromed, MUCH nicer and more durable than the aluminum one!

don't remember. I had it done at a place that is no longer in business - the platers here in KC have thinned out pretty bad. Now all we are left with is plate shops that do bulk/custom stuff for customers and don't really like us DIY'ers. I have connections though, since I am a "customer" and I will ask - I have refered folks to take stuff to my plate vendors, but they get turned down with high prices. So I keep it on the low that I get good deals for myself.

All I can say is that chrome plating has gone UP in the past 10 years LIKE BIG TIME! I paid $100 for a rechrome on a bumper - today it is like $500.

My thoughts are on a couple things related to chrome! First of all the enviromental impact will eventully force an alternative as the europeans are using a want to be chrome process. This was shared with me so i am no expert. As far as pricing here is where I stand. To get something plated or replated the vendor will hand polish your part and then go through a copper which is the primer, a nichol, which is the actual finish, and then the chrome, which is like a protective clear coat for the nichol. That is the way I have it in my head in laymans terms. I have used Tricity plating out of Tenn. on bumpers because this is all they do. 235 will get you a frt bumper done on one of our trucks. They will straighten and rechrome or chrome and warr. for life! Many people use them for show restorations. The other stuff such as emblems go to advance plating . Not sure about price compared to eveyone else but the work is A one. An emblem for instance may get the sharp edges polished round compared to origenal and when its plated may look bighter than an NOS origenal. I know because I have done this. I guess i'll end with it depends on what you want as long as its done right and will hold up.

I havn't attempted to determine the cost of rechroming around my region; I know in Nashville TN; there's a chrome shop that's very busy with big wig dealers and shops;
hav'nt save enough to take a piece to them for estimate etc. I figure its like when I was back in high school; we had a speed shop with a motto of " Speed Cost Money How Fast You Want to Go!". I guess resto rechroming is in the same ball park. I will adventually have my 65 emblems done & a 65 steel grille dip & chrome.

As for repops...It has irked me along long time that 66 stuff is being done and no less said to be the same for 65...it will fit, but to me, technically its not for 65....for one it woulda had a C5 part number....

I have gone to swap meets for 20 plus years. Any decent emblems are in glass cases or on trucks. I agree the 66 is not the same for a 65. I was told that Ford dropped 65 items around 1972 and superseded with the 66 service parts. I guess back then there were no points being deducted for wrong parts. I bought a pair of 65 NOS for 200 for the pair. Sound like a lot? Not at all for a major piece that signafies what you have. How about a 65 with 66 grill and emblems? How many of these are running around?
