Hi everyone. My 2.3L Ranger experiences a drawn out 2-3 shift but only does it once in a while. On my drive to work it might do it at 1 of 10 stop/go and the other times it's perfect. It really seams to do it more when it's cold???? I know it's an electronic shift trans so my guess is because it's intermittent it's getting a false signal from somewhere - maybe? All of the other shifts are fine, it just happens 2-3. Any help of course is greatly appreciated. Thanks
BTW - IT has the correct fluid in the trans and is new.
I don't know at this point in time, I can put the scanner on it when I get to work tonight (I work 3rd shift). Any other way of pulling the codes without a scanner that I can perform at home?
Consider having a trusted tranny shop hook up their high end scantool to have a look at whats going on with the tranny computer, as a code reader or low end electrionics can't monitor all of the tranny sensors, or actuators PID's, then post All code Numbes found.
I figured I would attach to the end of this thread, maybe get another update from aheavner. I have a 2007 XL with the 2.3L I4 and the automatic. Like you I had the long 2-3 shift, sometimes a hard (i mean truck jarring) shift both up and down. Sometimes the 1-2 is a little rought, but at times, especially when cold, 2-3 can really be lurching. Truck is 56,800 miles and 4.9 years old (warranty till September 29). I'm wondering is it worth taking it to the dealership to look at (most likely I'll have to eat the diagnostic fee), or is this kind of behavior normal for this truck? Thanks alot to anyone that can help!
so far good. I flushed the transmission too. but still added half a bottle of lucas trans fix and synthetic trans fluid. once in a blue moon has a rough shift 2-3 but not a bad jarr like it was. it shifts smoother at 1-2 also. a local ford dealership said its good to get it flushed out every other year, and he said it may need to be reprogrammed. as of now he knew no problems with them, and the newer ranger do not have the valve body gasket. Ill give another update when I can. hopefully someone else can post on here with a newer ranger with the same problem and got it solved. I just dont want to get screwed over by the dealer stealer.
I changed epc solenoid last week and no more 2-3 shift flare. 1-2 has a slight jerk once in a while . pan was free of debris. still added back lucas trans fix. any idees why the jerk at 1-2 shift?
