For those of you that have installed coolant filters...how often did you change the filter when you first installed it? I am about 200 miles in at this point...
Also, is that a filter that I can pick up at the local AutoZone? I am asking on here instead of in the store for obvious reasons, lol...many of them have never heard of a coolant filter, lol
I can get them at my local Oriley's, but I have to bring in the part number and they order them in for me the next day because the ones they stock in the store have the coolant "conditioner" in them and I've heard you shouldn't use that in the 6.0.
I waited for approx 30 days and 1000 miles. Lotsa black gunpowdery looking crap in the filter. Second change was after 3 months. The next will be after 5000 miles.

There is a list of filters that meet your needs floating around here. I 'm on my phone. Try a search in advanced, and enter "Napa 4070" with only 6.0 highlighted.
There is like 10 that work. And your part store probably has one in stock and do not realize it.
as stated, any of the above will work. also, its a bypass filter so you dont have to change it all the time. if it gets clogged, it wont hurt flow, so i just put mine on 3k ago and will be changing it in 2k, my next oil change. you can also pop the hood every so often and feel the filter to see how hot it is. if it doesnt seem to be warm after the engine is, its probably time for a change, but i am not going to change my first ones every 500 or 1000 miles. you can just change them whenever u want
When the filter plugs, the downstream filter hose won't be nearly as warm as the upstream filter hose when the engine is at operating temp. Changing them before this point is a bit of a waste because they're not critical to engine operation, but I've done it before just to ease my curiosity or to prepare for a long trip.
Changed my first one at 3k. Little bit of sand is all I had. NAPA 4070 appx $15 each. If worried about flow put in a sight glass. Peace of mind. Awaiting Power Steering System filter now.
I still have not changed mine. 9 months. 12k. Filter hoses still running at the same temp and filter still gets hot right away. Curious to see what is in it, but I see no point in changing the filter until flow is restricted. -Mike
I changed my first at 500. I had just bought the truck in Sept, and with 96k miles and knowing basically nothing about truck's history, expected it to be completely full. Surprisingly, there was nothing. Guess I got a good one...so far.
