I have a 2001 F-350 cab and chassis dump body with a v-10 auto 4x4. I am having a driveablity problem that I have never run into.
The truck runs great most of the time. Sometimes when driving down the road, the warning chime will start to sound, the overdrive light will flash and the truck will start to hunt for idle at a stop sign. Sometimes it will die and not restart or will be hard to start. Also, the idle problem will happen when using the dump body but will have no warning chime or overdrive light flashing. There is no CEL light and no codes except for a output speed sensor. I have replaced the speed sensor and it was better for a couple of hours but has since gone back to all these problems.
Fix the problem with the output speed sensor. That's the sensor on top of the transmission near the rear of the trans. It is not the sensor on the rear axle.
Since a new sensor didn't fix it the problem is most likely a damaged wire between the sensor and the PCM.
Well,
I replaced the sensor again with the pigtail. Traced all the wiring back to the PCM. I even ran new wires from the sensor to the PCM (including rebuilding the splice in the gry/rd wire. Think its a PCM? Problem seems to be on and off as the truck runs GREAT sometimes but not others. Also notice yesterday while it was raining that the problem is more frequent.
