1987 exhaust question
The Y-pipe leaks at the manifolds, the air tube up to the top of the engine compartment is rotted off, the converters are toast and rusted, and I had to clamp the pipe back together.
The shop quoted me $570 for a new FORD Y-pipe with the dual converter set up, ouch!!!
I have been looking for other y-pipe setups from NAPA, autozone, and such to save some money. MY questions is: Is it necessary to keep the stock setup with the dual converters? I saw one kit on Autozone that says it replaces both with a single for $270, way more affordable.
Any help is great! Thanks!
I was just wondering if the single converter design was just to improve the funky double converter design. They are both made by walker exhaust and the single is listed as a conversion part. Just curious if anyone else has gone the route of converting to a single converter and if it still passes emissions?
