I just finished installing my MBRP" turbo back exhaust today. It sounds great ( no muffler). I have done a 6637 and CCV mod also, and now I'm thinking about a tuner. I drive an early 99 F350,6 speed Trans, SRW ,4x4,CC,Long bed. I'm looking for that extra power for pulling my 35' trailer. Are the most common tuners/programmers useful with a 6 speed manual? I dont see much info out there for the manual trans owners.
most people here use DP Tuning (including myself)...You need to get guages first mainly EGT,Trans Temp,Turbo boost....so you can keep your truck safe...
edit---forgot manual trans..probally dont need trans temp, others will chime in
I have an F5 DP Tuner and I would never think of running any other tuner with my truck. The customer service is top notch as well as the quality of product. They really know what they are doing over there!
Forgot to mention, I have about 250K on this truck. You think I should go ahead with a tuner or are the miles high enough to not bother with the investment?

i would get one if you want the extra power......keep in mind you have to pay to play so if you dont want to spend money on anything you might break then dont get one......generally they dont create any problems on a stock to mildly tuned truck.....its when you get crazy big when the expensive stuff starts to happen......

they are not the only ones who know how to tune and i used to run dp......not anymore.......
I know there are alot of other people who tune, but that's ALL Jody does. Plus, I also like the DP-Tuner interface more than the 6-position rotary **** chips that alot of the others use. That's just me, though... everybody is right on the gauges. You can get away with only an EGT gauge, but I would consider a boost gauge later on. Real good tunes can run your EGT's out the roof pretty easy so you'll need to monitor that. Another useful one to fill in the trio if you want three gauges on your manual (don't need a tranny gauge for a manual) would be a fuel pressure gauge.
If you tow heavy you mit want to upgrade to the late 99 as far as turbo, spider plenums and all. My neighbor has a 99 6 speed, late model, and he went with banks, to much money, but it made the difference. He pulls 38' tow hauler and needed the tork and power. Gauges, can't say enough on that one. First thing. Also, HPOP for sure on the e99. I like the T500. Talk to Clay on that one.

IMHO, This is not a sign of good tunes. Good tunes should not have you watching EGT's like a hawk. Expect when towing and shutting down I don't even look at the pyro anymore. When I got good tunes on my truck my EGT's dropped, even over stock. You just can't hold the go pedal down long enough to to make them rise enough to worry about without a trailer on. If I don't try to run a hotter tune then I should, there is not much to see on the pyro even with a load.
Well, when I said good tunes, I meant tunes that aren't off-the-shelf tunes. More aggressive fueling is available with custom tuning, that's why we need gauges... I can't get the EGT's hot very easy, either. Unless I'm laying on it, I don't see too hot until I'm doing 80+. I also run out of oil really fast so I get alot of smoke and lousy combustion doesn't help EGT's out much, either.
