DP Tuner users?

I think I've about decided on the F5 DP tuner but thought you guys might have some input first. What's the deal on the "No Start" option? Are these trucks that easy to steal or just really, really popular? With all the mods you see in my signature, is the tuner the next obvious mod you think?

I had a DP Tuner F5 in my last 97 F350 (quite a few years ago) and I liked it.

For my current 97 F350 I am going to be running a PHP Hydra. I have been reading lots of good reviews on the Hydra and being able to update it with new tunes via email will be nice.

Thumbs up

I think they are easy to steal and easy to break into.

My chip is that old *** TS-6 reflashed with Gearhead tunes, one is a 'No Start' function. Also that manual trans in it deters many folks now.

I think you're right about the manual trans. My 19yr old grandson asked me when I got it "Why do you have 3 pedals?" Go figure. Riff Raff asked me to check out the Hydra but I'm not that comfortable with a laptop plugged into my truck. I can see how it might be more convenient for future mods. Anyone else using it?

Just put the F6 DP Tuner in mine and works nice...talked to Jody a couple of times and talked about what I wanted to do with the truck and my mods. Got the Bluetooth option just in case I want to change / add tunes. I agree on the theft issue...very easy to steal and very popular...set the no start in high risk areas and install an alarm.

Piles of guys use the Hydra here. It is modern and better than my old TS-6 by quite a bit. I am still happy with my total investment in this thing, got a good deal used and reflashed for my needs.

Hope it helps

My laptop doesn't have CD drive. Can the tunes be downloaded from USB? The more I read about the Hydra the more I'm liking it.

You have them emailed to you. A USB port and emsil service is all you need. Multiple people's tunes,no downtime for new tunes waiting on ups to deliver...I can't see anything else as an option.

You make it sound easy fordman. I buy the chip, order the tunes, they send them to my email, I download to a flash drive, then install on my laptop and plug into the truck and download?

Take out the download to flash drive part.

You actually download a program onto your laptop that will manage it all. All you need is a laptop, usb cable, and an email account. You actually get access to a whole list of free tunes as well.

I currently have have a dp tuner f5. I like it pretty well. I have had it for several years now with no troubles. I am planning a few more mods to for the truck, and I am planning to get a hydra when I do. There are several options for tuning with a hydra platform. No shade on the F5, but the flexibility is unparalleled

I appreciate the input from you all. All the mods you see in my signature were done with the help from you on this forum. I still have big oil, IC, and probably an H2E in my future so the Hydra seems to be the way to go. The truck is mainly just a toy to enjoy right now but I plan to pull an RV all over the country when I retire in 2 years. I just love old trucks and have restored a few over the years. This is my first diesel project and I want to do it right. Don't really care so much about 10 second 1/4 miles but it sure is fun to smoke past the cocky rice burners sometimes.

Good choice. I would suggest you reconsider an h2e. Do a little reading about 364.5sxe and the like.

I went with the Hydra and just got through programming it with the three 1023 modified tunes I bought separately for the stage 1s and the setup you see in my signature. My question now is can I also use any of the other tunes from the menu like "no start" and "stock" for a total of 5 tunes?

No start yes but the stock tune needs to be for the 160s
