just picked up a 351w that only has a few thousand miles on it but has been sitting around for a while. Tying to figure out exactally what this thiung came out of?
Block Casting: E4AE-6015-FA4 ..... date code 8C10
Heads (351w cast iron) ..... date codes 8C16
Intake D9DE-9425-CB .... aluminum 2v .... carburated? or FI ?
non serpentine, rear sump
I do know its a 351W and jusging by the casting codes 1988, but looking for more info. Could this be a 351W HO or not? and what did it originally come in?
never appears to be apart, took the pan and valve covers off.
It looks like i cant post pics here, but would send them to any one who PM me their address.

.
The "E4" black casting mean 1984. So the block was cast in 1984. If it has a 2 bbl intake then its a 351w. (150hp) If it has a 4bbl intake or EFI intake then its 351w HO. (210 hp) Then there's the lightning 351w HO, which you don't have. (240 hp)

NOT TRUE
Ford used the same casting number for this block starting in 1984 , and continued to use this casting number for many years to come, this is what the date code ID is for.
the original mold of this 'block style' yes is 1984 , but the date it was actually cast is March 10th 1988 ....
the numbers FA-4 that appear after E4AE-6015 .... stand for revisions made to the the original casting mold and possibly what vehicle it was made for etc.
What I do know is: it is a 351W , The block was cast on March 10th 1988 , and the heads were cast March 16th 1988, so it was for a 1988 production year car/truck, that came with an aluminum 2V intake and NON serpentine belt set up ....... what i am trying to find out is what car this came in?
I do appreciate your response, but please do some casting number research

The only car of that vintage it could have been installed in was the Crown Vic and then it would have a front sump oilpan, the engine was far more common in trucks and would then have a rear sump pan.
Well being a rear sump, maybe it did come out of a 88 bronco as I was told, with old school fuel injection that bolted to the 2v carb flange.
Can u see any performance gains by putting a Edelbrock 4v dual plane and a 600 cfm Holley on it? Not sure of cam specs or compression ratio?

Not likely, Ford did dabble in throttlebody injection briefly but for most vehicles and trucks in particular they went directly from carbs to multiport EFI in 1 model year.

Static CR with those heads is about 8.5:1 and the 2v cam is brutally small so you won't see hugh gains, but swap out the cam for just about anything from the aftermarket like even a mild 250ish duration RV cam and you could realize 100hp over stock.. with a free flowing exhaust of course.
