I know this is one of those questions everyone seems to ask, but so far I haven't been able to find anything anywhere on my engine except the numbers '4G270173' stamped on the pad rising on the front under the head. I'm gonna have to do some serious cleanup to remove the heavy paint/grime from it for anything else, but if anyone can tell me what these mean (if anything) I'd appreciate it! It is definitly a 351W, measuring the intake.

Should be a number cast into the side of the block. Number should read something like E4TZ 6010 or something similar to that. First letter indicates ten year group C=60, D=70, E=80, F=90. The number right after that is the last digit in the year. This is not allways exact as some numbers were used in later years, but is a good indication of year the production started on that block. E4 is 1984, and 6010 should be the group number for Ford blocks. I don't know anything about the number you listed. Hope this helps.

The casting number mentioned above is located just above the starter on your engine. The casting number off of the intake should also be able to give you a ballpark idea of the year if it's original.
I know it has been a long time since I posted this, but I finally got to tear into the engine and find some more numbers. If anyone can help me ID some years and original applications for these numbers, it would help me out a lot and I would really be appreciative.

HEADS HAVE A '16A' ON OUTSIDE ON EXHAUST SIDE, AND ON THE INSIDE THERE IS '351 WF [FORD SYMBOL] 4E28'
ON THE LIFTERS THERE IS 'JOHNSON HT900' PRINTED IN INK ON SIDE
ON THE CRANKSHAFT THERE IS A 'F8' STAMPED ON THE #7 COUNTERWEIGHT, BUT I COULD NOT FIND ANY P/N ANYWHERE.
This engine was not the original in the truck I pulled it from and the owner I bought the engine from had no idea on the year of it either. I know that there is a couple design changes in the engines around '73 and another later, so I'd like to get a positive ID on the year of this beast before I buy too many wrong parts.
Thanks again for any info anyone may have on this.

Judging by those part numbers, your engine is probably a 74, maybe a 75. Look at the part numbers, the D = 7, 4 = 4, so D4 is 74. The part number means year of design, not necessarily year of build. Most of those parts numbers are similar to the numbers for my 75 351W.
Hope this helps.
