@ ohiocrew: You mean two turns out counter clockwise from the seat? They're around 1.5 if I remember right. What about the secondary jets? How would I pick up speed letting off of the throttle?
NW, if its back firing it seems like timing, maybe its ready for a timing chain, just my .02
And new plugs cant hurt
It's set at 12initial and has a total of 38 degrees. All in around 3000rpm. The plugs are new as of last spring. It had been doing it before the new plugs as well. Did it worse enough one time to shear the dizzy pin.
It did it before though. Like I said it's when it's idling and I punch the gas pedal it does this sometimes. I've read that it means it's too lean if it backfires through the carb, but the plugs show otherwise.
What carb do you have? If your running too lean at WOT then let out it will richen up slightly and you will gain speed. I've tuned all my motorized vehicles that way minus the tractor. Dirtbikes to the 460 I had and plugs turn out tan or slightly brown. By turning in your air/fuel mixture it will lean out.
I have a 1406 edelbrock that I set up like the 1405. Switched the accelerator pump, and changed the jets to the same as the 1405 except I went with a 101 instead off the 100 the 1405 comes with.
Also it's happening at WOT, but when I'm sitting though. Like the tranny in neutral and it's idling and I punch the gas to rev it.
NW, what ever motor you have there is a forum just for that, I dont know what motor you have but if you look at the tool bar at the top of this page & use the search feature there & it will direct you properly, G
