wiring trouble.

hello. i am working on my 81 f250 with the 351m. i am putting the engine back together after doing .oil pan .timing chain .heads and so on.now the ign. the old wiring was junk and hacked together i could not tell what was what. i understand from the module to the dist.and coil. but were is the wire that comes to the other side of the coil? i have a pink and white wire that come out of the fire wall on the drivers side near valve cover ,but i believe thats just a temp or oil switch. on the passenger side wheel well, i have 2 orange wires . 1 is a fuseable link. the red for solenoid. and a green wire wich i think goes to the regulator. then obv the rest that go to lights. any help would be great .i have a wiring diagram but i dont think the color code is rite and maybe im not seeing it. please help?

thanks
jimno

Boy....

I had to read that 3 times to see what you're trying to say, you'd really help yourself by writing more clearly with good spelling & capitalization & punctuation & white space.

With that said, you are looking for a red/light-green stripe wire coming from a round connector with 4 wires near the ignition module.

Which side of the coil are you missing a wire?
Positive or negative?

There are two wires connected to the coil....

Dark-green/yellow-dash from the ignition control module (one of the round, 4-wire connectors)

Red/light-green stripe from a different round connector near the ignition module... the wires here go into the truck's wiring harness, not the ignition module.

Here are links to the factory wiring diagram of the CHARGE START RUN stuff - LH side, RH side of the diagram

Probably the RH side will be more useful.

ok i just went out and checked.i see another plug off the harness near the module. but none are red/light green striped wires? . im pretty sure on the wiring diagram its that ''battery'' side of the coil. can i just wire this up to the ignition power. i know on my older vans the coil and ballast run hot when ign is on.even when not running ?

i can agree on my wiring diagram it says its a red/green wire...is there a chance if i go from under the dash that i could hook up the wrong red green wire ? or is it the only one?

Look at Connectors:

321
322
323
325

In the wiring diagrams, these are on the sides & below the main window with the schematic.

That red/green wire is part of a circuit with a brown/pink resistor wire in the harness... this circuit gives the coil full battery voltage with the key in START but drops the voltage (to around 7V as I remember) with the key in RUN.

Compare your connectors to what the diagram says, go from there.
