OK i've read as many of the posts as i could find on this subject but couldn't find what i needed to know. ok i did an engine swap in my 74 f100. the old engine had points ignition and new one is electronic. so i bought the ignition module and the clip that goes on the coil. the rest of the wiring I'm just splicing in. everything on the wiring diagram was pretty easy to follow, but i have two questions. The wiring diagram shows a resistor wire. i bough one to put in but i don't know where to put it (it has a "plug" on either end of it) Where does it go? Does my truck already have one somewhere? Also the red wire has to be connected to the "run" wire from the ignition. i have it connected to a red/ green stripe wire right at the ignition switch. is this the right one? Any help is greatly appreciated. thanks in advance
Since you already had points, you probably still have the factory resistor wire. See if you can find the red/green that used to hook to the old coil, and hook it up to the new coil connector +. The factory coil + wire also should already be wired with the bypass feature from the solenoid.
When you are all done and get it started, read the voltage on the coil + while the engine is running. If it's something less than 12 volts, you are ok, and it had the resistor in the wiring.
For the red module wire, if you hooked it very close to the keyswitch, then that should work fine, as long as it has voltage in start and in run positions. I believe it will.
