Has anyone tried replacing the rear timing chain by removing the trany instead of the engine. Read a post where it was easier to remove trany on two wheel drive models. I was wondering if anyone else has done this. I am afraid that i am going to have to replace mine.
I have not done this or really worked on my Exploder that much. Having said that, I have spent a lot of quality time under other vehicles. I think about halfway through the process, you would pull the engine anyway.
Others may have a better take on it, but I don't see working on the engine in the vehicle for this repair. Besides, won't you be tempted to check the bores and bearings and maybe go beyond just the chain and tensioner job?
the truck only has 115k on it. but once the engine is out it isnt hard to ck bearings and clean all the plastic out of the oil pan. may need a new oil pump. hope once it is done it will go another 115.
