thanx so much...he thought I was CRAZY to try the forum, stating that with my luck I would get a reply from some guy wh has not a clue....I reminded him that TRUST is a big factor of life and that sometimes you can get a good feeling about things by the words.

My truck wouldn't idle either. There is a vacuum line behind the intake that can cause a similar issue. Its possible to reach but passenger side injectors have to be removed and its a tight fit.

Did your son by chance just change his battery recently? When I changed my battery, the truck computer lost the idle programming settings and I had to go through a procedure listed in the owner's manual to reprogram it.

Update
Thanx to all that gave excellent advice. The problem was a Mass Air Flow Sensor that was replaced and while undee the hood he took the liberty of checking the spark plugs...he changed them and left the "dirty" ones in a box for my son to look at. They were gross.
My son has promised me he will check here first, should anything else go wrong but he has decided tha perhaps a "professional 150K tune up" is needed. If you have any thought on this ...let me know.
