WOW, I just found this site and I have learned a ton in a short time.. Thanks All.
The reason I found it is because I was looking for answers for my problem. My 1999 f250 sounds like it is chugging at idle, the tach doesnt move but it sounds like it is starving for air. I changed the air filter which was horrible and it seemed to help a little but it is still chugging. It drive great but at idle it seems to "putt"....any ideas...........
I have a 5.4l v 8 Auto Trans. It had 48,000 miles. I have tried to take off the air cleaner and when I do it seems to get better for a split second then back to the "putt putt". I checked to see if the air intake was blocked and it was not. If i blow into the air intake when the the air cleaner housing is open it seems to idle higher for a split second and then back to you know what. I just sprayed the air flow sensor and the air temp sensor with choke cleaner and still no luck. It seems like it is starving for air......not sure if it is the air flow sensor or something else.. I dont want to drop $100 + on an air flow sensor if it is not that....I took it to autozone and they put it on the diag and nothing came up it..I a stumped...PLEASE HELP IF YOU HAVE ANY IDEAS...

I seem to have the same poblem but I have an 04 CC FX4 Powerstroke, Auto. Mine chugs like that only when it is cold, and only at idle. I have 7,000 miles on it. I have a Dec engine build which leads me to think I have the nasty Oct. Flash. I'm scared to take it in, as it may come out in worse shape. keep us posted
