mama needs help
My son has a 06 f150 what is another name for idle air filter ? I am trying to help but he is at his wits end about this truck...so ay help about this part would be helpful. thanks

Idle air filter? To my knowledge there isn't such item.
there is a general air filter. What problems are your son experiencing with his truck?

Idle air control value is the name that the guy that looked at it said it was. The problem is that it doesn't idle...gasps like for air.

What engine is in your son's truck? The 5.4l does not have an idle air control valve like previous trucks/engines. It does however have a throttle body (located behind and under the air filer housing) that could be dirty and not functioning properly.
But again...do you know which engine?

the IAC is located inside the air intake tube and can be cleaned. Wipe it off with a q-tip and CRC cleaner very carefully. It is a thin looking wire inside the plastci tubing

That would be the mass air flow sensor you are speaking of. Also known as MAF.

4.6l also does not have an IAC. The drive by wire system uses computer input to actuate the throttle body. Its likely that the throttle body needs to be cleaned on your sons truck.

Sounds good. And good luck. Run a search on here for tips on how to clean. Do not use carb cleaner as it is too harsh.

no codes...everything on hold until tomorrow when temps get above zero...right now it is minus 7 time to quit for the day. LOL

sorry I miss-typed the correct part name mama....but do clean the MAF and also dis-connect the neg battery cable for 10 mins. That re-sets the computer.
