I have a 2000 ford f 350 7.3
I changed pump due to hard to steer at idle.
The Teflon seal I have seen posted was not in there I installed o-ring, Small leak. I lost brakes and steering at idle rev it up and have them until you touch the brake then nothing.
Now I cant drive truck because what I have read the brakes and steering are joined. I don't have either. I was going to do the flush procedure. I'm completely lost on what to do if that don't work.
What am I going to have to do to get back working.
Somebody please help.<label for="rb_iconid_5"></label>
Welcome to FTE Patrick. What pump did you change? The power steering pump? Did you put ATF back in the reservoir when you filled it back up? Did you get all the lines hooked up properly? Have you tried to do anything to work the air out of the system yet? Does the fluid foam when you turn the wheel or pump the brakes?
Replaced power steering pump with a reman from O Riley, Filled with ATF the lines where hooked as they come off. Pressure line screws in from side drain on top, The final line on bottom. I have tried steering and applying the brakes The steering gets so tight cant hardly turn it unless you release the brake pedal. When I first put the pump on it steered OK. But by the time my wife got to the end of the drive way no Power steering or brakes. I am going to flush the system now to try to get air out.
There is just a minimal leak at pressure line fitting. Not enough to cause this it had a leak before. Going to get another teflon seal or just buy a new high pressure line. To fix that but cant figure out why it wont work.
I would deff get a new line, also for years of replacing these pumps and bleeding air. i put the front on jack stands and with the motor off i turn it from lock to lock about ten times. check fluid, if low... add then do it again untill it stays full. then apply engine power with the front end still up in the air and work the brakes into it this time, but remember to turn off often and check the level. any large amounts of foam means you are just putting air back into the system.
Ok I will go try to bleed it that way.. I just got thru flushing it ran 2 qts thru it. clean oil from start to finish. Still no change will try bleeding as you described. thanks
you have another component you may have overlooked by the way you talk about loosing all when you apply brakes check your hydra-boost it would not be the first one. when they go out the first thing you see is steering problems when they are not actually going in to the neutral position
WHOOOOO HOOOOOOOOOO Its fixed thanks for all your help. I get to live another day. My wife was going to Kill Me. LOL Bleeding with the wills in the air done the trick.
